The history of the restaurant starts in 1959 when the family first opened a seafood market named Legal Sea Foods because customers could use Legal Stamps (the predecessor to S&H Green Stamps) to buy food. In 1968 the market was so successful, the owners smartly decided to open a restaurant. Good idea. There are now over 30 restaurants spread along the East coast as far south as Florida. The servers here are also better on the whole. A little pricey, but the portions are big enough that you could probably have enough left over for lunch the next day. The wait on a Thursday, Friday or weekend night at this restaurant is AWFUL. It can take up to 30 minutes to be seated and it isn't like the typical mall restaurant where you can wander around stores until your can be seated. Instead you can sit outside of the restaurant and get stared down by everyone in the parking lot.

Bernard's is a classic American style Chinese restaurant located on the back side of the Chestnut Hill Mall next to Papa Razzi. They serve well above average takes on standard Chinese menu classics like General Tso's Chicken; their cuisine is markedly better than more budget competitors because they use good, fresh ingredients - particularly their meats - and their sauces are flavorful without being greasy. It's a family restaurant where the staff greets many of the customers by name, and the service is extremely friendly, fast, and accommodating to all. They offer a lunch time special, too.
